Where is St. Francis Animal Rescue located? |
| |
•
We are a foster
home based organization, staffed entirely by volunteers and do
not have a location. We have a post office box, an e-mail
address, a web site and a phone message service. |
|
•
How are adoption fees
determined? |
| |
•
All money received as
adoption fees goes to care for animals in our program.
Donations and fundraisers supplement adoption fees to cover any
additional costs. Animal care includes neutering or spaying
animals, necessary vaccinations, vet care for injured or sick
animals, microchiping of dogs, food, kennels and other basic
supplies. Prices are also determined by the pet's
age, breed, size, and over-all temperament. |
|
•
What kind
of food do feed your animals? |
| |
•
We feed our animals premium
brand foods whenever possible. We often received donated food
that may not be of real high quality, and we will use it for
cost reasons. Premium foods have much more protein and far less
waste products than the lesser priced foods. This translates
into nutrients that go directly to help an animal's teeth, coat
and bones. There is also less waste products for an owner to
pick up with the premium brand foods. We recommend that you
consult with your vet or with a reputable pet store about what
is the proper food for your new pet. |
|
•
What type
of items can I donate for your animals? |
| |
•
We are always in need of
premium pet foods, particularly puppy and kitten foods. We also
need litter, vari-kennels, and leashes. |
|
•
Can I try out a cat or dog in my home before I decided to adopt? |
| |
•
For liability reasons, we
cannot allow potential parents to have one of our animals on a
trial basis. We recommend that all family members, including
other dogs, visit any animals you might be interested in
adopting. |
|
•
What if I adopt and it doesn't work out? |
| |
• Our contract requires
that you return any animal that has been adopted from St.
Francis of Assisi Animal Rescue, to be returned to SFAAR.
Sometimes it might be because an animal doesn't work out and
sometimes it is because life circumstances change and you can no
longer adequately care for your pet. But it doesn't matter as
we take and want our animals back. If this is done within 30
days of adoption, exchange certificates may be offered for an
animal of equal or lesser value. |
|
•
I can't have a pet, but would like to help the animals, how can
I do that? |
| |
• We always have
need of volunteers to assist with transportation and handling of
animals at our adoption days. We also need people who can
transport animals to vet appointments, to pet store Luv-a-pet
centers, and occasionally to pick animals up from shelters or
other rescue organizations. We often need help at our
fundraising events. Of course, donations of supplies or money
always go directly to the care of our animals. |
|
•
How old do I have to be to adopt an animal? |
| |
•
We require adopters to be a
minimum of 21 years of age |
|
•
Are your animals housebroken? |
| |
•
Most adult dogs are
housebroken. however, it may take a little while for the new
dog to adjust to different smells and different routines than
he/she is used to. So you must be patient and consistent with a
new dog.
•
Cats and kittens are
litter-boxed trained. |
|
•
How much does it cost to adopt an animal? |
| |
•
Prices are determined by the pet's age, breed, size, and
over-all temperament. Prices usually range from $70 to $350. |
