St. Francis of Assisi Animal is a non-profit, 501(c) 3-tax exempt,
dog and cat rescue and placement organization. We depend
solely on volunteers, adoption fees and donations to operate; and
because we are a non-profit organization, your gift may be tax
deductible.
Foster A Cat, Dog,
Puppies or Kittens
We often have to turn away homeless and abandoned dogs and cats
because we do not have enough people willing to foster animals in
their houses.
As a foster parent your
job is to take care of the animal placed in your home. Most are
frightened and need some training. All of them need a lot of TLC. We provide the food,
vet care, and transportation to the adoption days if you don't care
to or can't go. We are a no-kill rescue group, which means we will keep an
animal in our program until it is adopted. It may take one week or
five
months or longer. We try to keep the animals in the same foster home
for the well-being of the animal. Sometimes, home placement isn't
working for a variety of reasons. If this is the case, then an
alternative animal is placed in your home. Your reward is the sense
of accomplishment in helping
to save an animal.
Become an
Adoption Day Volunteer
You will be scheduled to attend one
adoption day each month (or more if you wish). Most volunteers are
asked to transport at least one dog or cat from a foster home near
their own home. You would be required to hold a dog during the
adoption day, read the dogs paperwork, and talk to interested people
about your dog. Of course, most dogs will need several potty breaks
during the day and a quick walk or two to stretch out the dog's legs
is always encouraged. Every volunteer is encouraged to interact
with their dog through brushing, talking, petting, and just plain
loving them up. We try to match every volunteer with a dog they
are comfortable with. If you are under sixteen years old, you
will need to come
with an adult.
Transport Animals
You will transport animals from animal
control facilities to veterinarian appointments or foster homes.
You will also transport animals from foster homes to veterinarian
appointments, then back to their foster homes. Occasionally
transporters are needed to meet other rescue groups to deliver or
receive animals, usually within 200 miles from the Twin Cities.
Transportation is scheduled as needed for veterinarian appoints and
when we have foster home openings for animal control facilities.
Help Us With
Our Fundraising
If you can’t foster an animal
or commit to helping every month with adoption days consider helping
with one of our many fundraising events. We can use just about any
type of help – from planning and organizing – to advertising – to
set up, participation and clean up at the event – to generating
ideas for new activities.
Pass It On
If you know someone who is thinking about adopting or fostering a pet tell them
about us! Also, tell people why it is crucial to spay/neuter all
pets. There are thousands of cats and dogs here in Minnesota that
are euthanized each year because no one has room for them.
Donations
We can’t stress enough how much donations are appreciated. We could
not operate without them.
Monetary donations are always needed
and go directly to animal care, which includes spaying and
neutering, vaccinations, dentals, surgeries, and Heartworm
treatment as needed for the well being of each animal.
Monetary donations also help with the purchase of food
and supplies. Checks can be mailed to: St. Francis of Assisi
Animal Rescue, PO Box 256, Forest Lake, MN 55025. Checks or cash
can also be accepted at adoption days, special events and fundraising
events.
We can also accept donations through
PayPal. |
